FEBA Laminating Systems





FEBA Converting Machinery Srl engineers, designs and manufactures laminating systems to laminate cold-bond and heat activated PSA to a variety of substrates including foam and rubber, fabrics, cork, felts and similar materials. A wide variety of standard and custom laminators are available from the basic 'Simple' Foam Laminator for single sided lamination applications to Specialty Laminating Systems designed with the most sophisticated tension controls and accessories for a number of custom applications. Custom designed laminators can includes accessories like scissor cut slitting units, automatic transversal end-cut units for sheeting applications, mutliple upper or lower unwinds & rewinds can be added for liner recovery, composite laminating etc., dancer arms to feed in-line with die cutting presses, automatic material web guides and many more. Heating options vary from standard infra-red heating units for heat activated adhesives to hot oil cylinders for the laminations of films, adhesive netting and similar applications. Majority of companies utlizing a FEBA Laminator laminate foam materials; rigid foams 30mm in thickness too "super" soft foams 2mm in thickness. Due to the diversity of materials to laminate, FEBA offers a wide variety of tensioning control devices; simple pneumatic brakes, powered unwinds, sonar to automatically adjust brake tensions, loop control devices, & dancer arms with feedback to the PLC. The FEBA Laminator is available in widths from 1.000mm-3.100mm (Every 100mm increments) with diameters up too 1.525mm (60") and core ID from 3" up too 8". Standard operatings speeds of 20 Mts./Min. up too 60 Mts./Min. for high production facilities. All FEBA laminators are designed and manufactured accordingly to the customers specific converting application(s).

Listed below are more details on the optional features and accessories available that will dramatically increase your overall quality and production.

Belt Style Lamination Unit: The belt style lamination unit was specifically designed for laminating super soft foam or materials of this nature. The gaps between the in-feed and out-feed units are fully adjustable. The two adjustments are independent to enable the lamination of the foam onto the single sided tape with soft increasing pressure. This is to insure that the material is certainly in contact with the adhesive tape without creating any tension (to avoid stretch and curls).

Slitting Unit: FEBA offers a variety of slitting units to enhance the overall production of the laminating process. The proper slitting unit is determined by the type of products being slit. Standard scissor cut slitting units equipped with 120mm OD blades & counterblades for slitting materials up to 20mm in thickness or specially designed units to slit materials up too 50mm in maximum thickness. The slitting system is driven by the main drive motor so materials of remarkable hardness can be slit with ease.

Score (Kiss) Cut Units: Some applications require the PSA liner be cut or scored but the adhesive kept in tack. With this application, we fit X amount of micrometric knife holders precisely adjusted according to the thickness of the paper and cut against a hardened plasma coated roller.

Tensioning Control Devices: There are a variety of tensioning control devices available based on the materials being processed;
  • Pneumatic Brakes: All simple laminators are fitted with a pneumatic brake for tension control. This style brake works well with most materials that are rigid in nature or for th PSA unwind. The tension is adjusted manually through a potentiometer as the jumbo decreases in overall diameter.
  • Pneumatic Brake Adjusted via Sonar: The same style pneumatic brake is fitted but the tension is adjusted automatically via sonar as the jumbo decreases in diameter.
  • Power Unwind Unit: A powered unwind unit can be fitted which automatically unwinds the product when the sensor no longer sees the material. Once the sensor is made, the uniwnd process is halted and the lamination process begins.
  • Belt-Style Unwind Unit: The belt style uniwnd unit is similar to a lay-on-roller which slowly unwinds the roll at very low tension. The entire units adjusts automatically as the jumbo decreases in diameter. This style unwind is very popular with foam fabricators.
  • Dancer Arm: A dancer arm can be fitted in the unwind and rewind location with the tension fed directly back to the PLC. Tension between the jumbo & laminated rewound roll are controlled automatically.
Heating Units: FEBA offers a variety of heating options based on the materials and adhesives to laminate. Standard Infra-Red heating units can be used for heat activated adhesives and the number of lamps are determined based on the activation heat and the overall operating speed of the machine. The IR lamps are fitted to a retractable pneumatic unit which engages/disengages when cycle start/stop actuated. Hot oil cylinders are fitted in place of the standard nip roller when laminating adhesive based films. Oil temperature is controlled through a hot oil unit seperated from the machine.

Transversal End Cut Units: FEBA offers a number of soltuions for applications involving the lamination of rolls too sheet or sheet too sheet.
  • Semi-Automatic End Cut Unit for Rolls: The operator simply enters lenght of the end product and when the meterage is reached, the lamination process stops & the knife travels across the width of the machine and makes the cut. Once the cut is completed, the machine starts the lamination process and repeats the cycle above.
  • End Cut Unit for Sheet-Sheet Applications: When laminating sheeted good only, the machine can be fitted with an end cut unit to cut the PSA between the laminated sheets. Simply enter in the sheet length, and the machine will automatically figure in the gap once the edge of the sheet is detected by a photocell.
  • Fully Automatic Transversal End Cut Unit: The fully automatic end cut unit was designed for non stop production. The movement of the "flying" knife is determined by the maximum length of sheet to be cut. Speeds up too 20 Mts/Min can be run in fully automatic mode without stopping the machine.
